In January this year, my wife and I had the chance to visit New Zealand for 10 days.
It wasn’t exactly long enough to see it all. We only had time for the North Island. Nevertheless, we figured it would be silly not to pay some kind of visit while we were in that part of the world.
However, because this site wasn’t running during that time, I didn’t have the opportunity to share any of our experiences.
Flicking through iPhoto, I came across a photo I thought I’d share based on its amusing nature.
It was taken at the Taranaki Pioneer Village, in an old school classroom. I thought you may find it interesting.

Interesting. Police officers in Ireland in the 19th cent couldn’t marry without the permission of their superiors and faced dismissal too.

#4 is classic…
So Kiwi churches would’ve been filled with a bunch of single male teachers chalking up their attendance records in exchange for an extra night out chasing skirts during the week - now there’s a church marketing scheme I haven’t heard of

Samuel,
I would imagine many professions required much higher standards in personal character a century ago than what is permitted today.
Peter,
Ha ha!! Indeed. What a good idea! It must be the equivalent of our modern day After Church Youth Rallies.
Glenn,
The connotations ‘the church’ sometimes places upon things it doesn’t fully understand can be amusing at times. There are many modern day equivalents.
Ruth,
Yes of course. Because in those days men ought to have beards. Now though, it’s a crime to have a beard!
Haven't you got anything to say?
