My WordPress Theme Launch
Well, it’s been a long time coming, but I finally got round to putting together a few WordPress themes. I bring to you, not one, not two, but three free WordPress themes. These themes are unique designs, two of which I created for personal use, and one I put together so that I could release three themes instead of two!
First up is Linear.

It’s the theme I like most out of the three, the one I created just for this release. It looks like a grid design, and is visually appealing because of it’s linear style, but I never designed it to a strict grid. Infact, I’m so ignorant of grid designing that it could be designed to a strict grid, and I just don’t know it! Whatever the case, I like it and I hope you do to.

Second is Overshadowed.

I came up with this design for myself a number of months ago, but I think it lasted five days. It just didn’t suit my personality, although I like it. I’ll probably put together a 3 column version of this some day.

Lastly, Verso.

This is a simplified version of the design I’ve been using for the past two months or so. It’s fairly basic, but it has the potential of being a really chic design (in the right hands).

If you’d like to download any of these themes for yourself, head over to the WordPress Themes page. If you like the themes, don’t be afraid to let others know ![]()

I like your new header graphic for the blog. It is a lot more ‘balanced’ and it is easier to read your name.
Congratulations on releasing your themes.
Regarding your graphic/logo, I have assumed it was a graphic of a ‘preacher’…is that right?
Nath - Yeah, there were a few things I cleaned up yesterday. One was the header image (which was far too cramped), the other was the code (I just love seeing a little green tick in the bottom right corner of my browser).
Hmmm…not quite bro. Interesting idea though. Expect an explanation soon enough
Armen, you’re leaving me hanging. Maybe it is an A & T…you’ll have to surprise us. Can’t wait for that post.
I’m very impressed by the strikingly beautiful, clean look of your Verso theme.
One remark though : would it be possible to incorporate all the footer stuff in the sidebar ( the more traditional look )?
Personally I find the combination of the lack of sidebar content and this relatively ‘in your face’ footer somehow slightly unbalances an otherwise extremely attractive design. To have all the important stuff at hand near the top of the page, where new content is available, is in my opinion preferable to having to scroll all the way down.
Please note that my comment in no way reflects on your obvious skills and is a purely personal preference …
Peter - Thanks for the compliment. It would be very easy to do that. In a demo theme, you don’t (generally) fill all the space available, but people normally need room for MyBlogLog and Flickr widgets, Blogrush, yadda yadda…
The theme as it is, just spreads out the things you normally have in the sidebar. If you don’t need the space provided by a fat footer, it would be very easy to change it.
Linear - Dang!! - AWESOME!!
If I used WordPress, I’d definitely be using one of these themes (probably linear). Great work! Stumbled.
Deron - Ah, come on my friend. You’re a designer. There’s no way you could resist getting your hands dirty in Photoshop and some CSS!
Thanks for the stumble.
Ah, you’re right Armen, I would be getting down with my own CSS, but hey, it sounded good right?
I like your Linear theme. I particularly like the clean, rounded, lines of it. I would like to see it fluid rather than fixed by that’s really a minor quibble.
One of the tricker parts of finding a theme for my software development blog was locating a theme where I could post code snippets cleanly. I ended up going with Glass People and modifying it but I think Linear would do well too. I’ll have to keep it in mind for a future facelift.
I like your themes based on what they look like, but at http://www.wpthemesfree.com you claimed they were widget ready, and that’s not right. In case they are supposed to be widget ready it’s not working. That’s a shame, because I would have loved to use the Linear one. But I do not use themes that aren’t widget ready anymore.
Frank - Thanks! I haven’t really tried designing a fluid theme. To be honest, I don’t like the lack of control in a fluid theme. I know you can easily limit just how fluid it can be, but I prefer just to keep it fixed.
I’m learning all the time, so look out for more themes in the future.
BGH Quiz - I’m checking everything now, but it seems to work in WP2.3. Try downloading the theme from here.
Armen
Thank you very very much for looking into it. I’m also using 2.3, and it’s working for me also now that you made a change. Yay. =D
BGH Quiz - No problem. I’m glad someone mentioned it, otherwise I may not have realized. I don’t bother with widgets, but I know they’re a must for some people.
Hey you may be able to help me with a problem I have with some WordPress loops (or know who could help me)
http://germworks.net/blog/2007/10/19/need-help-with-wordpress-loops/
thanks for any help (and sorry if I have hijacked this topic)
Jermayn - I’m not an expert enough to look at it and know straight away what the problem is. I might be able to figure it out after a while.
If I was you, I would either ask on the WP support pages, or download this theme and study it’s code, as it uses a similar idea from what I can see.
Cool thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have searched and searched but had no luck.
I have thought of splitting them up in two separate columns but I do not want to do that as it requires more clutter in code and a separate category page for my clients page.
Jermayn - Let me know how you get on.
Will do, when I find a solution, will post about it on my blog with the solution as well. I have seen it done with the div clear method. SP seems to be using block=”inline” to make the excerpts do what he wants…
Im just confused
Yah
Found the solution.
What I did (which can be found hear) was use the advert idea were after a certain number of posts it pulls a template file and I just added the
<div class="clear"></div>into the template file.Jermayn - Good stuff! Glad you got it sorted. When I’m stuck, I just try and find a theme which does what I want, and then learn from it. It’s not always straightforward, but I can usually get it to work.
I see the Prosense theme helped you out a bit?
Yeah the Prosense theme did help but sometimes its hard to try and find a theme seeing there are so many out there and its kinder hard to get a good look at the features etc
