Try Jesus

This came in the post just recently in Port Lincoln. It says,

tryjesus

“Things getting you down?
Nowhere to go — life seems cruel? Try Jesus.

Simply fill in details on the back of this card. It’s free and it could mean a new beginning for you.”

I’d rather have your thoughts on this, but to me it appears to make Christ and biblical salvation seem like a pair of shoes! Try them to see if they fit; if they don’t, never worry and just move on…

I agree totally with your category: Theological Error

You can’t try Jesus and then throw Him in. Those that are truly in Christ forsake all for Him and finish the race.

Their sub tag asking whether life seems cruel is extremely misleading as well, for if someone, by the grace of God is genuinely converted, then life is most likely going to become more ‘cruel’ with the persecution that can be suffered through the hands of a world that hates Jesus.

Looks very like a Jehovah’s Witness leaflet for a start!

I agree with your thoughts - To me, it implies that Jesus is something that can be tried.

My first impressions are that the leaflet is trying to appeal to man’s emotions rather than the lost sinner. ‘Things getting you down?
    Nowhere to go

The tract is bad theology. Thanks for highlighting that point.

Nath - You’ve got a keen eye brother!

I agree. Life itself definately doesn’t get easier by submitting yourself to Christ. Of course we have access to super-abundant grace, but the trials are often more frequent and severe.

Kyle - I don’t think it’s the work of the JW’s, but I might be wrong. The address is a PO Box.

It’s got a kind of prosperity gospel idea behind it too.

Jason - You haven’t received one through the post by any chance?

Armen, it could be JW. They are now into the Purpose Driven style of Christianity…

No, I haven’t. Got an offer for a free Seventh Day Adventist book the other day (which I happily took up =D).

I almost “j”‘d past this in Google Reader as an atheist making fun of Christians because of this pamplet. Unfortunately, it seems to be a good means for it. It seems to be like Jesus is just another random fix out of hundreds… where God is not one of hundreds nor is he a mere fix.

Nath - There’s a comment in that article you link to which is more interesting than the article itself!

You’re right though, as Kyle said, it could be JW. I suppose I could find out… :)
Jason - What is the book about? I still can’t fully figure out if the Seventh Day Adventists can be classified as a cult. My heart tells me yes, but I’ve come across some people who would argue it.

Jake - Good to hear from you my friend.

    You’re right. It’s like a ‘prescription’ Jesus.

I haven’t been on your blog for a while (I need to clean up my Google Reader), but I love the design. Nice work!

Oh, some end times theme. It’s interesting how that theme tends to get the world interested…

When i read the comment, all i thought of was the shopping channels on sky television…along the lines of “Money back guarantees!”

Haven't you got anything to say?
