Last week there was a fruitful discussion on the Book of Enoch, and why it’s not included in the canon of scripture, even though it appears to be quoted in Jude. What will it be this week?

Would anyone like a ‘Question and Answer’ post each week?

Here’s a question! How would you witness to a hard line, closed minded athiest who would rather insult your faith than try to understand it? I tired presenting the gospel and using a few scientific arguments that refute evolution but he still wouldn’t listen. In the end I had to withdraw from the argument or risk loosing my temper and damaging my testimony - which was a hard thing to do, I felt as if I had let God down.

Ricky - Honestly? You don’t. No amount of reasoning will break down such a mind, no matter what you say. If you have a burden for them, there’s only one thing that will break him down — the power of God obtained through prayer, and prayer alone.

It’s maybe a frustrating answer, but from experience, it’s the only thing that works. His heart is hard, so the gospel is like pearls among swine. Only prayer can plough up the hard heart, and make it receive the truth.

Any other questions? Maybe a doctrinal one?

I agree, no matter what logical argument you present to the close-minded atheist type - they’ll usually find some way of denying your evidence or just brushing it aside!

Having ‘been there, bought the t-shirt’, I know that over time, and with others praying for me, my heart softened significantly and by the third or fourth time at a gospel meeting - I was receptive to the call of the Lord.

By the way Armen, I forgot to mention to you on MSN about another similar sermon by Reidhead - ‘So great a salvation’ - you’ve maybe heard it before, but I just thought I’d throw that in there when I had the chance!

Think about the conversion of Saul of Tarsus. He had such a mind, completely closed to the gospel. He hated Stephen’s message, and it even drove him to be more aggressive againt the Church. However, I believe God was working in his heart long before he was travelling to Damascus, because it says, “it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. (Note the plural). God had been working in his heart, probably from Stephen’s stoning, and God answered Stephen’s prayer, “lay not this sin to their charge”.

Kyle - I’ll give it a look for sure.

P.S. Did you notice the random quotes? If you have a good quote, let me know of it, and I’ll put it in the list.

Haven't you got anything to say?
