Choosing a domain name is one of the most important aspects of beginning a website. My advice to anyone thinking about starting a website would be this…think long and hard before you make your decision, a name can make or break a site sometimes, and I often wonder if I made the right choice in going for armensblog.com when choosing a name for this blog. I ponder alternatives now and then, things like nioz.com or armen.com.au or armenoz.com….. (just examples). But it’s done now, and I’ve far too many links to armensblog.com to change it now.
In case you’re not aware, domain name selling is a big business. In fact, some domains have been sold for crazy amounts of money. A nice example might be the sale of business.com for $7.5 million quite a few years ago.
Just a few moments ago however, I came across the sale of a domain name that really…you cannot put a price tag upon.
What is it? jesuschri.st
You’ll notice the domain ending is not your usual .com or .net. Just like .co.uk is used for U.K. domains, .st on the other hand is the country domain for São Tomé & Principe.
Anyway, someone has got their hands on jesuschri.st and they have it up for sale. The minimum offer is $100,000 USD and the Buy It Now price is $750,000 USD.
Will they get it? I don’t think so. If anyone buys this I’d consider them quite foolish, but more to the point I just don’t like domains that have in them any title given to God, or the Lord Jesus Christ. It just doesn’t seem right.
What do you think? Will it sell?

I think it will definitely sell although not for 750,000. It is a very clever name - but it will take people some time to get used to it. It’s like del.icio.us - took people some time to get used to the spelling.
I remember years ago when domain names were expensive but so many were available.. if only I knew single word domains would be worth so much…

Jon Lee - Welcome! I think del-icio.us works because it was original at the time. I checked out http://www.jes.us and it gets hardly any visitors (although most likely because of the owner’s choice of usage for that domain) and you’d think it should be a big one.
Yeah, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I think many of us have missed out in many opportunities, but then there’s no point in worrying about it. Most of us have more than we really need anyway.

Hi,
Just came across this blog entry as I was doing a search on JesusChri.st.
It was extremely difficult to try and work out a price for this domain name, too cheap and people would shun it as a gimmick, too expensive and most people would not even look at it. In the end I settled for pricing it the way I did for convenience.
I can let you know that the highest offer so far has been $25,000. When it does eventually sell I will let you, although then I would imagine it will even make the press.
Haven't you got anything to say?
