Update & Feedback

Update

First of all a brief update on things as far as the work of God goes. I’m obviously limited in what I can relate, so I’ll just request that you pray for me. I am thankful that after almost three months, I do not feel wearied by the work. However, I am noticing a slip in my productivity. This is usually down to the fact that I am not getting up just as sharp as I used too. Pray about this matter. I am also finding myself now and again, getting tongue-tied both when preaching and in conversation. This is odd, and I can only put it down to mental weariness at the times that it happens.

If you’re just passing by, or you don’t know what to pray for, let me just put it into a few simple points.

  1. A greater out-pouring of God’s power and grace upon me and my ministry
  2. Increased productivity in God’s work and in daily tasks.
  3. Continued safety, especially when travelling.

Also, just in case you’re wondering, I have been preaching, I just haven’t taken the time to upload the audio files. I have about three that need to go up, so they’re coming soon!

Feedback

The feedback on the new theme has been good…thankfully. Infact, It’s my favourite too so far. If you have any suggestions to add or remove something, then please let me know.

You may have noticed I had an icon up for the past few days called, ‘Fuel My Blog’. It’s purpose was to give the blog more exposure, but it’s effect is minimal, and I can’t be bothered pestering my readers to click on it everyday, so it’s gone. In its place, I have put in an icon to subscribe to emailed updates. Incase you’re not aware, what this mean is, every day the blog is updated you’ll get an email with the full post. If I write one post, you’ll get one email; if I write three posts, you’ll get one email with the three posts in it, including any photographs there may be in it too.

The orange cube is of course to subscribe to the RSS feed. This isn’t a technology blog, so I feel I have to ask this, please answer honestly. Do you know what the RSS Feed is?

The reason I ask is, if these icons are not clear to my readers, then I am going to have to write a brief post explaining my subscription services. Please let me know, or else sit in the dark.

You may have noticed that I have added another plugin. At the end of each post you should now see ‘Related Posts‘. This is exactly what it says. It automatically tries to find other posts that may be connected to what you’ve just read. Usually it’s pretty accurate, but sometimes it gets it wrong.

Lastly, I’ve removed the ‘Most Visited Pages’ list from the sidebar. Was that a good idea or a bad idea? Maybe you liked the concept, but you think it should go by the most comments rather than most visits? Let me know!

Monthly update on how things are going ’statistically’, is just around the corner too.

I think you know already bro that you have me praying for you! Without wanting to sound hypocritical…. or just critical - perhaps earlier nights would help your mental fatigue?

I know I’m guilty of staying up past my bed time myself and I do usually end up suffering for it!!

I like the current theme too! Perhaps some sort of division between the sidebar and the body would split the page up a bit better, and make it look cleaner?

I like the graphics you designed for the top of the sidebar too! Very impressive!

Kyle - I know fine well that I need more discipline when going to bed at particular time each night. I am to blame, my only defence is that it’s genetic!!

I’ve got an idea for division. Not exactly what you’re suggesting, but I’ve something in the pipeline, just not sure when it be implemented.

As for the graphics, I got the RSS icon here and I can’t find the image of the envelope, but it was that shape only in black. I just made it orange, gave it a drop shadow and put in the text - not all that impressive as far as my input!!

Ahh, and here was me thinking your design skills had moved up another notch! Still… the modified envelope is nice! ;)

Nah, sorry to disappoint bro. I’m always looking for the time-saving alternative.

I think you should explain what RSS feeds are as most won’t know. Also I think I prefer ‘most comments’ to ‘most visits’.

    Just my thoughts!! :)

I think you should explain what some things are, as it is quite likely that some readers won’t know what they are, or what they can do with them.
I subscribed to the RSS feeds some time ago but as it was emailing me about an update on your site after I had already read it, I unsubscribed.
On Melanie’s site for example, what are the links marked “please share” “digg”,”del.icio.us” etc….can these be used for OUR advantage? Or YOUR advantage?
Thanks in advance for your help, patience and understanding of the less computer literate among us!
P.S. is there a way we can use italics, bold text and such like, when posting comments?
Also, did you ever think about a section where your viewers could post a comment/question or whatever, without it being “off topic” in another post? (If you know what I mean)

Mel and Glenn - Thanks! Answers are on the way :)
Let me clarify your last point though Glenn. There are only two ways I could do this, and it would depend on the reason as to which would be more fitting.

If it was for general converstation and/or questions, I could have an ‘Open Blog’ day each week. What that would be is a post (like normal) only I don’t really write anything, I just title it ‘Open Blog Wednesday’ and in the comments section you just write what you want. You may tell us about something you’ve read, or ask a question to me or someone else or…well, you could write just about anything!

The other suggestion is that I have a ‘Question and Answer’ day. This would mean you email me with your questions and queries and I will seek to answer them publically in a post on a certain day.

What do you think? Which would you prefer? Or both?

Haven't you got anything to say?
