Blip In - YouTube Out

Ok, so you all know what it’s like when you get a new toy. Well…the guys do at least. Yesterday I made mention of the fact that we got a new camera, so on the way to Lock i decided to test it out with a few short clips, all of which I’ve now put together.

Like 95% of people in the world I went over to YouTube to upload the video clip, so that I could place it on here for you to view. After eventually getting it uploaded, I was really disappointed with the quality. Like most of the video file sites, the file you upload will automatically be compressed quite severely into a flash file (.flv). The videos are then only decent when there is little or no movement, and as my video had quite a bit of movement, I decided to look for alternative ideas. That’s when I came across blip.tv

Blip also compresses the file into a flash video. However, it appears to be of a higher quality than the rest. What do you think?

As far as I can see, Blip is a lot better. It also uploaded faster, and as far as I’m aware, there is no limit to the file size, unlike YouTube’s 10 minute limit.

I saw your comment over at Churchcommunicationspro.com.

    I’m with you bro…Blip.tv rocks!

I love the fact that you can use their site to distribute your video without that big ugly YouTube watermark. Visitors to your Blip.tv page can save the video in the original format (in your example, .MOV), rather than the highly compressed .FLV format that You Tube offers.

Kyle - You should try being a passenger!! ;)
Mark A. - I wouldn’t be surprised if they add a watermark once it’s out of beta. But it’s great all the same. And the option to download the original file is a nice addition that most services don’t offer.
