A Call To My Blogging Brethren!

Around the ‘blogosphere’ there is what’s known as ’speed-linking’. Basically what it means is, the blogger puts up a post with links to articles they have come across which they think may be beneficial to their readers.

Now, I have discovered that this practice can have a massive impact on the readership of a blog for everyone who gets involved, and can help build a ‘community’ within particular niches. You find that ‘technology’ blogs and ‘blogging for money’ blogs all have a wide readership because similar blogs all link to each other on a regular basis.

This attitude towards other bloggers does not produce the negative effect that some think it does. You see, some think that if they link to others then you are directing people away from your site and you’re losing them. But that is not the case. While a link out will take them away for a time, what you’re doing by ’speed-linking’ is providing a service to the best content on the web at that particular time for your readers, and therefore they will return to you to get that service on a regular basis.

It also increases the links in and out of your blog which increases the search engine rank, technorati rank, etc, exposing your site to more people and infiltrating the web more powerfully.

So this is a call to all my ‘blogging brethren’ to quit being so stingy with links, and together lets drive technology and news blogs off the high rankings and expose the world to more Christian websites, where they can read the truth about God in various aspects.

I’ll get the ball rolling:

Tim Challies is ‘live blogging’ on the Shepherds Conference at John MacArthurs church

Jason Robertson makes a brief rebuttal to what John MacArthur apparently (Jason was there) had to say about Amillennialism at the first meeting of the Shepherds Conference.

Eric Raymond answers the question, “Can theology become idolatry?”

John Piper makes his journal entry available to read giving his thoughts on the recent death of his father.

Josh writes an article particularly for young Christians.

I’ve been intending for a while to start doing something like this, Armen. I’ve done it intermittently before, but maybe this is the catalyst I need to make it a regular feature. Thanks for the suggestion.

Tim - No problem. I’m glad you’ve been quick to consider the need to build on the Christian blogging community. It is beneficial to everyone.

Thanks for the link Armen. I should do this more often, you are right. I went ahead and added you to my blogroll. Keep up the good work.
