Mission Accomplished!

You have to love Australian wildlfe. This morning I was sitting in my study minding my own business, when I heard Mel shouting on me.

“What?”

“There’s a ‘Slink’ in here…” she cried.

Thinking I hadn’t heard her correctly because of the whizzing of the fan I again shouted for her to repeat what she said. Fan or no fan, this time I knew she said, “…a Slink…”.

Half laughing I replied,

“You mean a Skink??”

Whatever!!

So I got up and went to have a look; and sure enough, sitting on the floor of the ‘unused’ bathroom, was the smallest Skink I’ve seen so far. Just a little baby.

Unlike last time, this wasn’t going to be as difficult as it wasn’t clinging to the inside of a toilet bowl. While Mel kept and eye on it, I went and got a glass and a sheet of paper.

Here’s a photo of the little fella -

skink

Looking at him for a while, I half contemplated keeping him as a pet he was so cute, but then I’ve learnt my lesson when it comes to keeping reptiles. In fact, I really don’t see the point in any pet that doesn’t have the capacity to have a personality or show affection.

Anyway, I lifted him up and took him outside and let him go. Something I think he really appreciated.

You can almost discern a smile on his face -

skink

…hmmmm, maybe not!

It was nice to have been able to rescue him. As long as it continues to be Skink’s invading the house, we’ll not mind. However, if Red Backs, White Tails, and Huntsman spiders start to gatecrash, then serious action will be taken…I’ll run a mile!!

Since you’ve got your dose of photos, I’ll hold off on the rest from Glen Forest!

Here Mel, you can’t say that Beverly and I didn’t warn you about those little criters!!! Just wait ’til their bigger, uglier friends start invading the manse!!!

Remember, some of these things have no skeleton - and can fit through a gap of only a few millimetres!

Not to worry though, Armen’s there to capture them and keep them as pets!!!

Mel - I’m not going to lie sweetheart, I’ve got to tell it as it was - it just so happened that the truth was amusing!

Kyle - That particular Skink today could squeeze through most gaps for sure.
We nearly did have a pet this week…but more on that within the next few days ;)

Melanie…you said…I’m just glad my little ’slink’ survived this time! This would imply that there were some that didn’t :(
I hope Armen doesn’t get carried away, and throw out the “kitchen slink” too!
Armen…I’ll have to tell you about Gerry’s escapade with the Huntsman Spider sometime. That will really boost your ratings!!!

Glen…don’t you remember the toilet bowl incident when we moved here at the start?? He was still alive when Armen got him out, but seemed a bit ‘worse for wear’ after the whole experience! Not so sure he survived unfortunately!

Oh…i think was it Geraldine’s birthday recently?? Belated Happy Birthday Geraldine!!

Lee - Welcome brother! Sadly I’m not a pro, otherwise I could charge for the service. And since Mel would be the only one calling, it would be out of my pocket and into it again! lol

Glenn - Yeah, is that the one about the Huntsman in the bathroom/toilet?

As far as the ‘last one’, you can find a detailed account here.
