Many of you will remember that at the end of January I put up some ’stats’ relating to the blog to let you know how it’s going. With February being a short month, I wonder if we have gone forward statistically?
Well the first week of February saw a pretty big slump in visitors and page views - well under half of what we got last week, but overall there wasn’t a huge difference from January. Now I did set a target of 5,000 page views for Feb, but we didn’t make it. Like last month, the unique visitors were similar, an average of 300 each week and the page views were 3,407 for the whole month - an increase of nearly 900 from January.
The Alexa ranking went up a fair bit from 4,903,591 most ‘important’ site on the WWW to 2,960,400.
Last month Technorati reckoned that (to their knowledge) there were 43 other blogs that linked here, meaning they ranked it as the 83,414 most important blog that they know about. This month it’s now 83 links from 75 other blogs meaning we’re now ranked 48,770.
Also for your information -
In January I wrote 27 posts. In February I wrote 34 posts.
In the past month I also installed the ‘Top Commentator’ plugin. This has been reset and will be reset each month. It specifically allows other website/blog owners who comment on this site to get a link back to their site if they post regularly enough to be in the list. It’s also just an easy way to know who supports the blog most (or who is ‘opinionated’
).
In February I also began to upload my sermons, and I’ve been quite surprised at the interest. I had parts 2, 3 and 4 available before I had a Download Counter put on, so there should probably be a few extra on them, but we’ll not worry about that:
Currently serving 6 files, which have been downloaded 82 times.
This gives an average of 5.47 downloads per day and 13.67 downloads per file.
1 John Part 2 - 23
1 John Part 3 - 17
1 John Part 4 - 18
1 John Part 5 - 13
1 John Part 6 - 6
1 John Part 7 - 5
Overall it’s not too bad. I’d really like to see more unique visitors, and like last month my target is 5,000 page views.
Again I ask for thoughts on how to improve. I’d really love to post short video clips now and then, but our small digital camera is broken
so we need a new one.
Any other ideas for improvement? What does the blog lack? What would you like to read? What would you like to see? Come on…gimmie ideas!

Armen,
Glad to see your blog is growing. The advice I’d give to you is to keep it up. I’ve been doing my blog for nearly two years now, and from my experience, you’re probably not going to become an overnight success. It takes consistency and commitment.
Again, I can only speak from what I know with my blog, but my readership has seen a slow, steady increase. That doesn’t always mean every month is higher than the previous month. Sometimes it’s a case of two steps forward and one step back. But don’t get discouraged.
I’d also advise you not to become a slave to your blog and to your traffic count, as it can become an obsession.
If I have any other thoughts, I’ll try to remember to post them. Or, if you have any specific questions, feel free to email me anytime.
I just listened to one of your sermons today and hope to get some feedback to you within the next couple of days. For now, let me just say that it was a great blessing to me.

Tim - that is certainly food for thought. I did wonder if some people who read this post may think I’m bragging or something - but those intersted in the Internet etc, will know that these numbers are nothing to boast about, but I figure it’s interesting for some of the regulars.
Your blog has a faithful readership which is great to have. When you post in a manner that provokes thought and opinions you always get a good response. I have a few regulars who are very supportive (thanks guys
).
I’ve read quite a bit about blogging and I am aware that the key to a ’successful’ (used with caution) blog is fresh, unique content and patience.
I am really encouraged by you coming on here and posting your thoughts - it’s nice to get support from others in the ‘blogosphere’, and I look forward to your feedback.
(For those who are unaware, I asked Tim to listen to one of my sermons and give me some constructive criticism. The idea to ask him was provoked by an excellent article he posted - http://www.timellsworth.com/?p=1583 - as the son of a preacher, I reckoned he’d know what he’s talking about
)

Yea Armen, I didn’t think for a sec you were bragging about stats, so don’t worry…it was cool to compare the figures.
Yea, I know you broke the wee cam but vids and pics would definately be good.
I was expecting a prize, certificate or at least a public recognition for being top commentator of the month!!
I love the new header as well by the way…the close up picture of the verse is effective.
Just keep blogging like you are…anything that comes into your head…communicate it! Even if its only a small post. I come on regularly just to see what you’ve had to say so keep posting! I’m not so much suggesting that it should become an obsession or top priority, as much as an effective means on communication and swapping of ideas.
I like it.

Saman - Thanks! Although it’s hardly like Steve Olson’s 100,000 visitors in the first 30 days!!

Just to clarify, I didn’t for a second think you were bragging, either. Sorry if my comment implied that.

Tim - I know. I never thought that at all, I was just refecting on the possibility. No need to apologize.
Haven't you got anything to say?
