I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’ve changed the header…again!
For various reasons i decided that I should try a give a more appropriate representation of what the blog is about. I mean, it’s mostly about the work of God and things relating to the scriptures, with a little bit of this and that thrown in for good measure.
What do you think? To be honest, I’m not 100% sure about it yet so I’m looking for suggestions. What do you like/not like about it? How should I change it? Should I take something away? Add something in? Change the font/colours?
Please contribute your thoughts and help me out!

In answer to your first question…. YES… you are a header!
Links along the top are a bit hard to make out. Perhaps an alternative colour or even bold the text to make it stand out better?
Perhaps fade the picture of the bible text into the grey over a bigger gradient?
Or maybe, don’t fade the gradient in at all, and use the bible text as a background?

How does that look now?
Anyone else got any ideas?

hmmm, looks promising, but I’m not sure about the font used in ‘Armen’s Blog’.

Yeah? What would you suggest? I thought one of the hand-writing style fonts would be most appropriate, but some of them are quite ‘messy’.

Not sure to be honest - could be a case of trial and error!!
If all depends on what style you want the banner to be? Are you trying to make the banner look more conservative and sophisticated?

I don’t have time to flick through any at the mo, but I might check out some others in a day or two.
Conservative - yeah sort of.
Sophisticated - no, that would be hypocrisy :)

It’s an impressive piece of craftsmanship, but I prefer the old header. It captured the excitement and adventure and sheer delight in life which characterised Paul’s approach to mission. It’s clear in Thessalonians how much he LOVED being with the tiny congregation and how it broke his heart to be away from them. Let the joy of life roar once again!

lol…”It’s an impressive piece of craftsmanship”
You’d think I’d just carved a bookcase out of one piece of wood!
Yeah, I liked the old header in many ways, but you need to be careful because not everyone would see the blue hair, etc for what it was. A Christian can never be too careful and I figure this one causes no doubts as to the general content of this blog.
Again, thanks for the encouragement though!

Sometimes “less is more “, think of it like you would a photograph.
I think possibly the background is a bit “busyâ€, or distracting. I don’t know if this is possible, but could the links across the top, and the search box, be moved to a new line, directly below the banner, but not obscuring it? The photo of the Bible is great and the kangaroo sign, also. I thought the photo of you and Melanie was great there too. Those three things pretty much sum up the blog, the desire for spreading the Gospel, the fact that you are presently in Australia, and I think the photo of you two emphasises the friendliness, and social aspect of your blog too.
At least this is one Evolution that we can scientifically observe !

I too liked the older header - but I completely understand why you’ve made the change!
I also prefer the new font, it seems a lot less ‘harsh’! My only nag now is the links along the top, which are still a bit tricky to make out - Perhaps try a few different font colours? Maybe something like - #dfeafb?
Just a thought - I know there’s a ‘home’ button in the top left corner, but how about making the banner link back to the home page also?

Glenn - I totally know where you’re coming from. Like I said, I loved the old header in many ways. For one, it was the first header I ever designed that actually looked like anything!
However, unlike you, Kyle, Taleen etc, some people who visit this blog don’t know me (sometimes over 100 different people in a day) and when they see blue hair for example, they don’t associate that with Reformed Protestant Christianity, so I need to be careful that I don’t let down my Saviour…even if it comes through misinterpretation of who I am, what I’m like, what I believe, etc.
With a bit of trial and error, I have implemented your suggestions. Is it ok now?
Kyle - is Glenn’s suggestion ok? I also made the banner link to the home page.
Thanks for the help everyone…I really appreciate the advice and constructive criticism. Any more?

Found another problem for you! Have a look at the site in 1024×768 - the menu along the top and the search box overlap.
Perhaps keep the links along the top and drop the search box into the banner again?

Kyle - Mel told me about that too. I ended up having to go to the DP Forum for help on that one. It seems to be sorted now. SHould I put the search back on top of the banner?

Ach, I dunno - it works well both above the banner AND inside the banner… Maybe placing it at the top would draw more attention to the links along the top?

I got rid of it. Mel discovered that it wasn’t working anyway, so I put Google search into the sidebar.

It is 3:20pm GMT 02/03/07 and I have just seen the latest incarnation of your “Header”, and I think it is great improvement! Maybe I am getting a wee bit picky here…but I think it would be great if you could re-position/shift/rotate the close-up of the Bible text, so that the word Spirit doesn’t clash with your capital A. I am probably asking the impossible, and I apologize if I am!
I agree totally with you about you about the blue hair, incidentally!
Jed wants to type you a wee message….
