Lectures To My Students…

spurgeon lectures to my students Last night I began to read one of the ‘must reads’ for a preacher of the gospel. C.H. Spurgeon’s ‘Lectures to my Students’. It’s a fair size of nearly 600 pages.

I was tired last night when I got home, so I didn’t get very far, but here is a paragraph from the Introduction that I found very challenging;

“The solemn work with which the Christian ministry concerns itself demands a man’s all, and that all at its best. To engage in it half-heartedly is an insult to God and man. Slumber must forsake our eyelids sooner than men shall be allowed to perish. Yet we are all prone to sleep as do others, and students, among the rest, are apt to act the part of the foolish virgins; therefore have I sought to speak out my whole soul, in the hope that I might not create or foster dulness in others.”

Strong words from the old preacher. I have no doubt that there will be much blessing in reading this book, therefore I will make a point to record on this blog the most blessed and challenging parts that it might benefit us all.

Part 6 of the series in 1 John will be up shortly too.

    Armen, just so you know….

    incase you didn’t realise, you are not only doing a ministery in Australia, you are doing a ministery to me daily (or postly…whichever).

    I have been challenged, encouraged, blessed, enlightened, taught…EVERYTHING, through this blog. I love getting on to read it and it truely truely has been and is being a ministery to me. God challenges me through it so often…

    Be encouraged….this blog is not only informative and communicative….it’s a minstery in itself.

    Thank you…

    Thank God.

    Taleen - Indeed, thank God! I totally unaware of any impact this blog is having, so it’s good to hear positive feedback to this degree.

    Of course, you wouldn’t be biased at all ;)

Haven't you got anything to say?
