My first full month of blogging

How fast does time go? January has come and gone like lightning and with it has gone my first complete month of ‘blogging’.

How’s it going? Well that’s what I should be asking you, and I hope you’ll leave comments and suggestions as to what I’m doing right, and how you think I could improve.

In asking that however, I am reminded of a post I wrote this month requesting your input and it was ignored by all bar one (thanks sis ;) ), so I guess sometimes you readers just can’t be bothered to reply to my posts, or maybe my writting isn’t ‘involving’ enough?

Anyway, the blog hasn’t changed the world or anything, but I’ve been pretty content with the way things have gone so far, even though the improvements could be endless.

I got ‘indexed’ by Google really quickly, which has helped bring in a few strays from the search engine, but Google have what is known as a ’sandbox’ period (something around 3-6 months) where they don’t permit a website to get the ranking that it maybe should. This stops spam websites, so I’ll have to wait longer for the full potential of Google traffic.

I even have a ‘Page Rank’. You’ll see this if you have a Google Toolbar where each site is ranked 1-10 on its importance. Now it’s only ‘1′, but it’s got there pretty fast. For instance, hebronfpc.org (by the way, if you live in the Ballymoney area and you don’t already attend their services, what are you doing? Get over there and check it out, 12 noon and 7pm each Sunday)has been up for over a year now and it still has a Page Rank of ‘0′.

How about alexa.com, what do they think of Armen’s Blog? Well, they know it exists, and they rank it as the 4,903,591 most ‘important’ site on the www. In the top five million…not bad for the first month on a site that doesn’t intentionally have all that much for strangers to relate to.

Technorati reckon that (to their knowledge) there are 43 other blogs that link here, meaning they rank it as the 83,414 most important blog that they know about.

And lastly…what about ‘page views’? Well for the month of January this blog had 2,532 page views and each week it was averaging about 300 unique visitors.

It could be better, but it’s not too embarrasing. Now I’m wanting your input to make it go up, rather than down from here. Lets see if we can double the page views for Febuary to 5,000.

A big thank you to all who have contributed in this first month, and also to those who just read and keep up-to-date on what’s going on over here in Oz.

Anyway, stay tuned. I may have an interview for you to read shortly from a very important person :)

I have to say I’m actually impressed. I’ve been writing a blog for several months and I only get about 2 people visiting. If your writing isn’t ‘involving enough’ what does that say about mine? Anyway, looking forward to your interview with Oprah Winfrey with baited breath.

I really enjoyed what I read on your blog the other day, your style is very readable and I even like the design. I reckon your problem is ‘blogger’. I know some people can work around it and be ’successful’, but the majority of decent blogs are run using Wordpress.

Search engines are also smart enough to be weary of sites that are run for free (i.e. http://www.yoursite.blogspot.com). Your own domain name and hosting will be more ‘respected’. Check out this post
If you’d like to setup a Wordpress blog I’d be more than happy to help.

sorry - I’m never very good at checking up on replies to comments. Thanks for your comments and advice - much appreciated. “readable” I like that. I may add that to my bio.

Haven't you got anything to say?
